Adjusting to a new school year for any kid is an expected ordeal. With schedules, subjects to master, demands from new teachers, in addition to a deluge of extracurriculars (social life too!) kids are apt to be disorganized. As you already know, organizing is not an inborn skill. It's something we all have to learn. When they're infants we spend most of our time getting them on a healthy and compatible eating and sleep schedule. As toddlers we ask them to help clean up the toys, and the older they get the more we enlist them in helping the family around the house. Essentially we're teaching them responsibility - a very good thing. But when it comes to getting them organized and out of the house we tend to take on the bulk of responsibility (nagging?) if only because we're busy and it's more efficient. We spend a good deal of time reminding the kids of what time it is, where they should be and when - and hopefully, just maybe having them get their own gear ready. When they're older and it finally comes down to their managing their own time, things tend to go awry. Doesn't really matter whether we've been doing to much or too little for them - so don't blame yourself! What matters is that they learn to feel more productive, accomplished, successful and, most important, to feel good about themselves - by doing for themselves - sooner rather than later. |
Like so many other planners, BusyBodyBook organizers are merely a tool. If you find that your children are having a hard time staying on top of their assignments, their projects, tests, or activities help them out by supplying them with their own easy-to-follow Weekly GRID format. Have THEM assign columns to specific school subjects, sports schedules... Have THEM write down and pay attention to projects or homework they have due, when to study for what test, when and where they have to be (using highlighters help a lot.) (Crossing out items off their own ToDo list can be very gratifying too.) Give your kids a boost of confidence by providing them with great tools and your help. Teach them to organize their studies and manage their own time. These are the skills that build good habits and will last them a lifetime. |
Wonderful BusyBodyBook ..loved and will give it a try
